Job Objective: Costing samples and production goods by: • Creating and maintaining a costing data base for raw materials, labor, packaging and embroidery, screen printing etc. for childrens apparel and bedding industry. • Provide cost information to other functional groups within the company - Design, Sales, Merchandising, etc. • Develop and maintain relationships with existing factories and vendors. • Research and shop the market for new factories, vendors and resources of raw materials, production, embellishment etc. • Stay current on events and circumstances which affect costs – ex. Yarn price increases driving up the cost of fabric; logistics cost increases caused by shortage of shipping containers, changes in foreign exchange rates, etc. • Obtain FOB costs from factories on time which meet margin requirements. • Calculate cost estimates required by each business model employed by the company and accounts - ex. Landed cost vs several FOB points. • Review the variances between projected and actual costs and adjust costing methods, data and relationships with factories to rectify negative variances. Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities (KSA) • Costing experience in the soft goods industry (preferably in children’s products), and an understanding of the tools used for costing. • Know the costs and issues associated with imports, such as tariffs, logistics, freight, and complying with C-TPAT, etc. • Significant time spent in factories and know soft goods manufacturing processes, from marker making, spreading, cutting and sewing through to shipping. • Knowledge of commodity pricing for yarns, greige goods, and piece good conversion (printing and dying) • Experience in embroidery, screen printing and related embellishment techniques would be a distinct advantage. • Able to develop yields and costs for product components such as fabrics, trims, labels, inserts, packaging, etc. • Strong computer skills, particularly excel. • Able to travel to factories, vendors, and other company locations. • Language skills in English and Mandarin. • Ability to perform under pressure in a multi cultural environment. Education A Bachelors degree in a technical/engineering discipline is considered an advantage, but appropriate industry experience is also acceptable.
